SKF system without fume hood: SKF two-component system with 100% efficiency

Hospitals, institutions, canteens, the food preparation industry and fast-food restaurants have large cooking facilities, in some cases capable of preparing thousands of meals a day, the amount of emissions into the atmosphere is just as great, imposing, in some cases, the need for effective treatment. The SKF system.

SKF is a filtering complex specifically designed for use on effluent from large kitchens. It is a system that incorporates several active filtration stages on different fractions of pollutants. The SKF system can automatically provide its cleaning (water unit), keeping the filters at a constant level of efficiency. The genesis of this machine is the result of compaction and adaptation for the specific industrial use typical of complex odour effluent treatment.

An ideal treatment system involves the combination of high-efficiency filters on the corpuscular and non-corpuscular fractions of the effluent. Such a system, to be usable, must be of limited size and cost, with the possibility of functioning without requiring special attention from non-specialised personnel.

In summary, a machine was built from scratch for this particular application, structured as follows: it is a system with two filtering units, which in some cases can be assembled in a single container box; in the case of rooftop installation, the polluted air inlet and the purified air outlet are positioned at the top of the water system. The first recycled water stage is the heart of the plant, with an initial washing of the polluted fumes and the relative precipitation of the fats present in the fumes. The fat molecules, broken down in the first water process, are deposited in the container containing the recycled water of the scrubber, the water is pushed into the hydraulic circuit through a centrifugal pump in the suction, and injected using stainless steel nozzles into the polluted flue gas pipe.

How smoke purification works

On contact with the water, the fats undergo saponification, turning into small lumps that float to the surface of the tank. At this point, only small traces of pollutants, reaction residues or substances requiring further processing remain in the aeriform.

The next filtering stage of refinement consists of a dry filtering section, to block the small grease molecules remaining, with the passage through the dry filter, they are eliminated by passing through several filtering layers with corrugated panels and rigid or floppy pockets, for the remaining odours (even if in a very small part) the air purified of grease, is inserted into cartridges containing vegetable or alumina absorption cylinders, to create total adsorption of the remaining odours.

The entire filtering complex is maintained in perfect efficiency using a daily cleaning cycle of the water filtering unit, which is carried out automatically by the machine during the night breaks; the tank containing the filtering residues (which are entirely biodegradable) is discharged into a separation sump (with which the premises must already be equipped).

For the dry filtering section, the maintenance technician must apply the normal process of cleaning the exhausted filters, like a simple air treatment unit. only after the maintenance has been carried out can the alphanumeric key be used once, as it changes from time to time. The SKF system is CE certified and complies with the regulations in force in Italy.

Law 152/2006 and its amendments. Furthermore, with the proposed system, we can guarantee the declassification from EHA4 to EHA2 as required by the regulations in the case of direct expulsion to the façade without a chimney. The SKF system complies with the resolution of Roma Capitale art.64 bis with resolution no. 12 of 05/3/2019 and is therefore suitable for reintroducing treated fumes into the room without the obligation of expulsion to the outside and without the use of a vertical flue. The SKF system varies according to use with a flow rate in mch from 1,500 to 20,000 mch.
